Caulfield: Check it out, Mrs. Olsen. Mrs. Olsen: The Archies! Takes me straight to 1969. Caulfield: Where, I'll note, you do not have a test scheduled for us. Mrs. Olsen: Well, we are all here now. Caulfield: I allowed a bad song in my head for nothing. Frazz: That was very zen-like for an Archies fan.

I’m having horrible feelings remembering the Archies from 1967. That means I’m even older than Mrs Olsen!

The Archie comic started in 1941. Great comics and great music, both hard to find in the modern period.

Yeah; I recall reading that one of the Archie characters is gay. Or maybe lesbian.

I always found it hilarious that the No. 1 song of 1969 — a year associated with turmoil and protests and Woodstock — was “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies.

Another bit of triva: Sabina the Teenage Witch originated in the Archie comics, not in the TV series starring Melissa Joan Hart. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabrina_the_Teenage_Witch

I remember watching the Archies cartoon, with Sabrina the teenage witch segments, back in the late 70’s/early 80’s. I can still vaguely remember the theme song to the show, in particular the verse “Here comes Sabrina on her broom!”. Even more vaguely, I think I remember a Broom Hilda cartoon which may have been part of the Archie show, but might also have been a stand-alone show or part of the Hanna Barbara family of cartoons. I’ve looked in vain for the opening sequence to the old Archie show on Youtube

Oh heck, I was playing it straight – bubble gum blows, especially when stuck in your hair. I was young enough to love this stuff when it came out, and it still gives me the warm fuzzies.

I was never the hippest pencil in the drawer, but when I heard ‘Sugar Sugar’ edged out ‘Get Back’ as top pop song of 1969’ I started losing my taste for Top 40.
