Suzie is a good character. Here are some factsSusan “Susie” Derkins is a cute and beautiful girl who lives in Calvin’s neighborhood. She is his well-known neighbor and the only major character to have both a given name and a family name. Susie takes her studies seriously and doesn’t slack off on her homework like Calvin does. She also takes piano lessons.
Susie believes it isn’t a surprise no one has sold a house on their block for 6 years. She is often pelted by Calvin with various objects, including buckeyes, water balloons, and once a bowling ball-sized snowball.
Calvin once revealed that Susie eats each ingredient of her sandwich separately.
Her mother must be friends, or at least cordial, with Calvin’s mother because she allowed Susie to stay with them when she could not pick her up. And she called Calvin’s Mom when Calvin dropped a huge snowball on Susie as Stupendous Man.
Oddly, though she treats school seriously, she once attempted to cheat on a test question. She asked Calvin what the capitol of Poland was until 1600. Calvin responded Krakow. Susie said thanks. But it was revealed Calvin said “Krakow!, Krakow! 2 direct hits!” as Spaceman Spiff. Ironically, that was the correct answer.
In the winter time, Susie also builds snowmen, although they are generic and not as unusual as Calvin’s.

Question: If Hobbes lives only in Calvin’s imagination, how did the tie get onto Hobbes?
wmbrainiac about 9 years ago

I wonder how all of this looks to Susie.

The tie is there. Mom put it on for Suzie.
cubswin2016 about 9 years ago
Since Calvin had to have put the tie there himself, that must mean that he has a secret crush on Susie.

I think Hobbes is hoping for some smooches!

Don’t think of a comic strip as either/or logic. Think of it as magical realism. Hobbes is real and alive but only when alone with Calvin or when alone. Easy for him to put on a tie while in the closet and then resume being a toy when Susie opens the door.

It’s enough to drive Calvin to drink. He’d like to “tie one on”, also, as Hobbes did.

I wonder how Calvin’s life is in his house.

Hobbs really puts the " Tie " in Tieger.

@GROG:You needn’t wonder what Susie thinks. She makes it clear with her question in the last panel. She doesn’t want to be there any longer than she has to be.

Of course, Calvin has a crush on Susie! There is even a strip in which Hobbes teases him mercilessly for it.

Wasn’t there a strip where Calvin did something mean to Susie and she ran away crying, then Calvin actually felt sorry for her?

Calvin, you should know Hobbes well enough to realize he would probably dress up for Susie.
