Eventually they’ll put a tax on breathing. They already have a tax for when you stop.

Reading what you’ve pasted, which I’ll take at face value, is on its face a very feasible proposition. The problem is there are a LOT of small businesses that do over 100k in sales. SALES is the key part. It’s concerning because if they have a hihg-cost/high-overhead operation, they can hit that 100k in a hurry. That means they will end up falling under this tax increase.I also have yet to see a tax imposed in any liberal society that gets lowered because another tax generated enough revenue. I could be wrong, but when we see a state like California that’s swimming in red ink, I can’t see them lowering any taxes. I also think it’s improper to extort businesses to “pay a reasonable minimum wage.” This is a cleverly-disguised form of coercion, a la Chicago politics. “Pay your employees more, or we’ll tax you to death.” It’s a shake-down. A lot of people today have started filing as “corporations,” even if they are small 5-person enterprises. If you look at it from their perspective, they can’t afford to pay $15/hour (which is the number I’m sure this senator has in his head). I’m sorry, but I’ve lost too much faith in our government to believe anything that comes out of the mouth of those politicians…. especially CA. I don’t live there, but I see enough gimmickry coming out of that state to see this is nothing more than a ploy to get another tax increase passed so they can funnel cash to the massive welfare apparatus and powerful public sector unions. Call me jaded, but I call it as I see it.

More Tax and Spend from the Liberal Dems! If it moves, tax it. If it doesn’t move, subsidize it!

Prop 13 did more damage to California, especially regarding education and higher education. Reaganomics further shafted the state and gave corporations the gold. As infrastructure crew to accommodate population increase, and demands for “services”, the refusal of those newcomers especially to pay their fair share of taxes is why and how the state got into its current fiscal problems.

It always amazes me how naïve people are when it comes to taxes. Taxes don’t get paid by corporations or businesses of any size. They get paid by the consumer. All costs of doing business, including taxes, have to be covered by what you are selling. Raise taxes and companies simply raise rates. Ironically, corporate/service taxes hurt the lower and middle class more than the upper class.

“When Prop 13 was passed, not surprising.: Nope, CARB, Coastal Commission’s assault on property owners were two big reasons. If I’d stayed, Prop 13 would have lowered my real estate taxes. CARB spent $1 Million evaluating motorcycle emissions. They didn’t like the result, motorcycles had no effect on air quality, so they tossed facts in the trash and went their deranged way. The coastal commission’s arbitrary building restrictions destroyed the value of many small owner’s property, me included. You’re living up to your avatar.

You’re a typical dishonest Liberal (I repeat myself) the issue isn’t the dead. The issue is the living, the heirs and you are advocating theft.

You’re being stupid. The Feds tax SS benefits, most states also tax adjusted incomes (on the 1040 form) which includes SSA payments.

Not all taxation but all unjust taxation. The deceased has already paid taxes on her/his financial accounts and property, it is not just to double tax those funds.
