Next time he puts it down, dip it in chili powder when he isn’t looking.

I wonder what Val did with tHolly and Alix to get them off the pacifier? Maybe if she learned from her nieces’ experience, Joan would know how to get Max off the pacifier.

Don’t give them one to start with and it won’t be an issue later.

our kids never took to one for more than a couple months. but i heard cutting off the end of the nipple and saying it is broken is a good way to get Max to stop. now if Luci stopped as well then Max won’t want one

I used one with my first and I took it away when she was about 18 months old by just throwing it away. We had a few sad days but she survived. My other 2 never would take one so no problem.

So what’s the problem? He’s quiet, happy, not hurting anybody. big deal if he has a pacifier in his mouth.

I’m not sure that the person responsible for loosing Holly on an unsuspecting populace should be questioning another’s parenting skills.

I hope this story line doesn’t last much longer. there are too many easy ways to stop it! He’s sucking one that (supposedly) is not even his!! Buy him his own and get over it. He wants attention…albeit the wrong kind! He will get over it. We do NOT need more pampered, spoiled kids in the world! There’s enough of them walking around with their cell phones attached to their hands already!!

Deal with it. It’s easier to get rid of the pacifier. Cutting off a thumb is considered bad form. I had one thumbsucker and one pacifier user. The pacifier user threw it out of her own accord when she was around 5. The thumbsucker was still sucking at 9. (This upset the teacher no end, but too bad.) The thumbsucker paid for it, as the orthodontist installed an appliance which didn’t come out till the braces went in. The pacifier user didn’t need braces.

Max wants to revert to babyhood? Fine—treat him like a baby. It’s inconvenient for the parents, but it beats a pitched battle which nobody wins. As Lucie said, “You’re old”.

First Rule of Parent Club: Whatever the reason KIDS CAN HEAR. “Trying to ignore it” by talking about it with every adult in the neighborhood gives him validation. Since they’ve already not “ignored it”. Try telling him that people who use pacifiers need naps. Two for one: Until he gives it up he’ll nap, when he’s too bored to nap – he’ll give it up.

I really wanted my son to use one when he was a baby. He kept spitting it out. My reasoning was…I can always “lose” a pacifier, but his thumb is ALWAYS there. I was thinking of what I could do to stop him, not which one he liked better. Lesson learned! ;-P
