Yes. We need to sharpen our pens and pencils and keyboards against those who would seek to drive wedges between communities by violent means. This terrorist act looks to have been done by men claiming the mantle of Islam, possibly in hopes that French society’s reaction will be to (further) marginalize the Muslim community in that country and thus push that community into the arms of ideological extremists. I hope the people of France will not give them what they want.
As an interesting aside, according to Juan Cole, “France is a country of 66 million, of which about 5 million is of Muslim heritage. But in polling, only a third, less than 2 million, say that they are interested in religion. French Muslims may be the most secular Muslim-heritage population in the world”.
You’re right, it is a very sad reality. One that does not speak well for our own country, and one that I hope France will move away from. All the while being clear that people will not be terrorized into silence, no matter who is attempting to suppress people’s voices. Because a vigorous commons of discourse is important if we are to continue to improve the human condition.
Why would you characterize an entire religion the way you just did Islam? And why copy and paste the exact same message of hate all over the boards here? Seems like your agenda is simply to defame almost a quarter of the world’s population. Talk about horrific!
Where are the moderate muslims? If the radical idealists really are the minority, shouldn’t they be easy handled by the masses of the peaceful majority?
Sorry, he was Ahmed. The TV announcers put in a hamza, making it sound like a different spelling..sw10mm: They’re there, it is just that the corporate media won’t report it. It might interfere with the multinationals’ campaign of divide and rule.

It was years ago in the early days of hijacking that I went over what I’d been taught that could indeed take down a hijacker or assailant with a pen.

If your beliefs don’t stand up to the pen, they aren’t valid beliefs.

Not to mention all the moderate white folks who don’t “handle” the radical racist white folks who bomb NAACP offices.
