You made it here alive, didn’t you. And you got to keep a few souvenirs.

He’s a little old for the Pony Express. They generally hired young men – I think 18 was the top age – and preferred orphans. It was common to ride 250 miles a day, changing ponies every 10 to 15 miles. Hazardous pay, at least!

How long did the pony express last? About 18 months. The telegraph put it out of business along with the completion of the transcontinental railroad.

“The riders received $100 a month as pay. A comparable wage for unskilled labor at the time was about $0.43–$1 per day.”" The initial price was set at $5 per half-ounce, then $2.50, and by July 1861 to $1.".Information is valuable and yet so few really understand this fact.Oil companies spend millions of dollars to drill exploratory wells just to get information regarding the existence of hydrocarbons and amount if any. They don’t really too much mind the low success rate because the ones which are successful tend to pay well.Even so, before that direct method of getting information is used, seismic data and lots of computer power is applied to pick the best spots to prospect..Sometimes just a letter from a loved one is worth more than others can say.
