After all these years it’s still relevant.

    Some things never change.

And it’s not only girls. My sister’s best friend in highschool had a boyfriend who was always dangling a possible wedding in front of her eyes “if she’d just lose X pounds.” (She was nearly 6 feet tall and big with it, but not “fat.”) He had no intention of actually marrying her; this was just his way of dodging the issue, and torturing her with her “inadequacy.” Why she would want to marry someone whose regard was conditional on her appearance and who would yet treat her as a sex object, I do not know.

I think the Sundays didn’t start until 1952.

On the other hand, it’s fairly recent that men could be comfortable with a wife who had or made more money than they. I know from experience that even something as negligable as a dollar an hour can ruin a relationship. In today’s world, this seems silly, but it was a real problem back when this comic was first published.

Very true. The only thing that’s really changed about the human condition are the ways we manage to annoy the hell out of each other and the tools we use to do it.

If he’s grown up and she’s still a little girl, somebody was pushing the light-speed boundaries…
