They’re a good idea, and will, as dash cams already have, support more cops than perps. Where known to be in use, they’ve already been helpful in preventing assaults against folks, like cops.
As usual, Phil’s police related cartoon uses flawed logic. Unless you are already known to be seriously dangerous, you will not be shot simply because you are fleeing an officer. You have to pose a threat to either the officer or nearby civilians for a cop to take a shot at you. This was shown to be the case in Ferguson where the assailant had no bullet holes in the back. Only while charging the officer were shots fired. In that case, it’s possible that a cop-cam might have prevented rioting. Then again, an opportunity to steal some liquor and electronics in the name of “justice” might have been too big of a temptation to resist.
So you’re saying that recognizing the fact that some police officers over react in arrest situations means that you should expect no police protection what so ever? What kind of absolutism world do you live in?
Uh, “night” you ARE aware it was an “air soft” pistol that was manufactured, then modified, to look EXACTLY like a real gun, right? I too think the officer was too quick to shoot, and the dispatcher screwed up by not passing on the 911 caller said it looked like a “fake gun”, but my concern is; how many OTHER kids are running around with modified toys that look like real guns?
Oh, btw, more and more often, those armed robbers at convenience stores, and even banks, are using “air soft” pistols to threaten, so if caught, they can go to court and proclaim their “innocence” because they only had a toy, and were not “armed”…
Seattlel P.D. video of a female drunk kicking an officer in the face as he’s loading her in his car. Yes, she’s handcuffed, and violent, and he hits her to stop the kicking. The camera clearly shows HER assault on HIM- and that’s far more common than folks think. BTW; woman and cop are both black, so let’s show sexual AND racial discrimination?
Churchie: while go pros are pretty cheap, they are NOT the “lapel” type mounts, or design required for a police camera, or Spec Ops. Further miniaturization and storage capacity for these uses makes them a lot more costly than cameras for civilan use, even skydiving or skiing, etc..
The Supreme Court ruled against “stop or I’ll shoot” twenty-plus years ago.Police have guidelines now as to when they can fire at fleeing suspects. That is why you have tasers. When you watch “Cops” on TV, no matter how old the episode, do you ever see an officer yell, “stop or I’ll shoot”? This is why it was a crucial matter in the Michael Brown case as to whether he was running toward or away from the police officer.“Stop or I’ll shoot”? How ignorant and outdated. The 21st century is over here, Mr. Hands. Suggest you join us.

Put cameras on punks that steal from liquor stores, sell illegal cigs, punch cops in the face and all those that don’t obey an officers orders.

While I don’t disagree with the reasonable idea of cameras on cops, I do think that the SS insignia (glare pattern on sunglass lens) is going too far.

“cops don’t have time to check the caliber of the gun pointed at them”are you advocating manufacturers only make real guns?

I have to wonder if that is a bad thing though.
