    I’m sure it’s been said before, but I’ll say it again, Little Nemo is truly a classic comic strip. 20th century fairy tales! I’m guessing they’re singing what they are because it’s Nemo’s dream, and that’s the song he would associate with a seat of power. The Star Spangled Banner hadn’t been chosen yet, or they would probably be singing that.

    Regarding the patriotic figures and song, the comic is dated July first, so Mr. McCay was probably thinking of the Fourth Of July. Be my guess, anyway.
