She should have him try again and help him learn the procedures he didn’t master. This will end like why most dads don’t do car repairs any more.

Mom worked as a cook for many years. She taught all the kids how not to burn water. I used her lecture on putting out oven fires to good effect. ;-) I still enjoy cooking for myself.

Sara should be happy that her teenager son tried to cook in the first place. And be grateful he didn’t burn the house down.

Then help him clean up and try again. :)

I tried teaching my four sons to cook, 1 of them is really good at it, the 2 younger ones can cook basic things for themselves, the oldest 1 has a girlfriend who does the cooking.

I started baking when I was still in elementary school, when I was in junior high both of my parents worked and left home before I or my sister woke up, which meant that the only way I could have something besides cold cereal for breakfast was if I learned how to cook. By the time I was in high school I was at least starting dinner most days and then when I reached college I had an on campus apartment where I’d cook my own meals. I was told that people would go out of there way to walk past my apartment door when I was cooking just so they could smell what I was making. Since I’m single and live alone I still make my own meals and share them when I can.

First time I made lasagna from scratch, it was fun. But during clean up, I discovered tomato sauce on the ceiling. Still don’t know how I did that. I’m not a great cook. But I can cook. Started when I was four or five. We had a gas stove and the only thing mom would let me cook was oatmeal. Unattended.

and Toby may look a little distressed – but years from now the tale will change and he say he was the hero of the hour!

At least he’s making an effort, even if it’s a complete disaster afterwards. :P
