That’s the job remaining where it will be processed before being shipped overseas, actually. The pipeline isn’t going to be the serious source of contamination, even if there are some spills.

This isn’t oil flowing through this pipe line, it’s diluted bitumen tar. It’s nasty. How would you like to have this nasty stuff flowing on your property that was stolen by the government for the oil companies. The CEO of Trans-Canada admitted that there will only be 50 permanent jobs created by this mess.

“Everyone will complain about “Government Interference” slowing down the pipeline for years, BUT, when it springs a leak, and dumps thousands and thousands of gallons of smelly, toxic goo on the ground, THEN people will be screaming for “The Government” to send in people to clean up the spill.”

Keep in mind that Congress has exempted energy companies from being responsible for goo spills of this type. When it spills (and it will), only the localities will be willing to do something, and they won’t have the billions in profits and government subsidies to help finance the cleanup.

And when the aquifer under the pipeline is polluted and the drought that comes from climate change occurs, we might find that the goo is not as easy to live on as food.

But, once again, it is more important for some people to make short-term profits.

I have these questions for conservatives: why do you work so hard to ensure that OTHER people make money? Which person among the posters on this site will actually see any personal increase in wealth from this pipeline? Or knows someone who will profit from this pipeline? If it is not in your interest, why work so hard to help other people make money and pollute your world in the process?

Here’s a thought: if it is so important for this gunk to get to a seaport, how about the Canadians run it West to Vancouver? Or maybe East to Quebec? Why should they have it run across OUR country?

We know this cartoon is such a lie.

Republicans would never allow funding for toxic cleanups. The deficit and all, y’know.

And they would never hold pipeline owners responsible for any spills. That would be Bad For Business and would severely diminish bribes and payoffs campaign contributions from the oil industry.

“I have to admit I don’t get it.”

    I can help you.

Let’s start out with the honeybee. Bees pollinate plants. When there are no bees, plants do not reproduce. If those plants produce food, there will be a shortage of food. If we kill all honeybees because a highway has to go through, we may be signing our own death warrant.

An extreme example, I will admit, but one that is playing out with great regularity throughout the world.

The earth is a marvelous ecosystem, where we all depend on the works of others to ensure that it remains habitable. Break the chain and we can all suffer; sometimes “saving some little fish or bird”—-or insect, in this example—-can be the key to saving mankind.

    You’re welcome.

“You may as well save your energy – the tree huggers will never listen. Their little minds are warped. They actually believe that some little fish or bird is more important than people. I have to admit I don’t get it.”What I get is that you once again have no counterargument for the cartoon’s message. You compensate by attacking posters. Do you actually have anything to add to the conversation?

“Even Warren Buffet who is heavily invested in the Rail and Truck has invested in the Pipeline. Try being honest. Not just some true Believer.”OK, Buffet invested in something he hopes makes a profit for his company. What does that have to do with it? It doesn’t change that the pipeline will have little to no benefit to the US while presenting potential environmental disasters, and toxic waste that needs to be dealt with.

Cora; go into a coal mine, when the littlel yellow bird drops dead, take some deeper breaths yourself, and find out what dead birds can mean. You’re inheritors (if you have any) will appreciate your “wisdom”.
