With everyone dropping their land lines and sticking with cell phones, our local phone books aren’t as thick & heavy as they used to be. Mine goes straight into the recycle bin.
Actually, I find it faster to use the Yellow Pages than it is to wade through the garbage searches online. Too many bad sites that claim to be yellow pages. Nothing is ever complete, & all you get off of most sites are a phone number. And it seems that the listed businesses are out of business. The yellow pages in my opinion, are better than a million hokey online sites.
One more vote here in support of the yellow pages! Yellow Page ads actually tell you things about the business, and most businesses don’t have websites in the first place.
Although I agree with those comments supporting the Yellow Pages, I believe the medium is on its last legs.. I remember the last time I used the “book” for a service, I started at the first listing. Each time, the phone was answered by a “machine” either asking me to leave a number for a return call, or to call back when “they” were answering the phone..After several attempted calls, someone actually answered the phone! I confirmed she was an actual employee and not some remote answering service. I told the gal who answered what I needed (some gutter work) and she gave me a verbal quote and when they could do the work..Although I didn’t get any additional quotes for the work, I gave the company the order. She asked me why I chose their business and I told her it was because someone actually answered the phone…
Our local phone book has shrunk in size to 7″ × 81/2" and is less than an inch thick. Except for the names of the businesses, you need a magnifying glass to read the rest of the info. I’ve been keeping the older, larger version for easier reading, cross referencing with the smaller one to make sure a business is still in business.
