Burl is such a shrewd bargainer. That car will only cost them $123,000.00 when it is paid off.I was going to rent some bathroom rugs, but the thought that the Penny’s did the same and then returned them when they ….got….um.,,,,,,slightly…uh,,,,stained, well that turned me off, as it would anyone, right?By the way, they bought the blender in 1983.

Ah, the wonderful synergy between predatory lenders and stupid borrowers. But alas, the only ones who lose are the borrowers. Here in the great state of Texas, home of the free, the brave and the unregulated, the biggest payday lender in the state is a member of the Legislature who also heads the committee that oversees and regulates his business. No conflict, right? Right. Can’t have those job-killing regulations, can we? Three guesses as to how much oversight and regulation there is. Right on the first guess! Three guesses as to the interest rates allowed, 1 gazillion, 2 gazillion or 3 gazillion. Correct again. Chances that it will ever change? Right again. Then there’s Burl and his ilk. Stupid as a box of rocks, and he doesn’t make a very sympathetic victim. Gad. Both my son and daughter have had home warranties for years. Paid in for years and gotten out next to nothing. These folks will try to repair or jury-rig a burned-out light bulb rather than replace it and charge a $75 service call to boot.I hope Hanukkah is going well for all.

Burl shrewdly managed to get the car for only the bare bones payments offered on the front window!

This salesman has never worked with the Pennys… so he doesn’t know all the extras they’ll fall for. He’s not going to add on the the extra $20 a month “bank payment transfer” fee, or make Burl write him a personal check for the $400 “finders fee”, and the $175 “Paperwork preparation fee” that the last dealer charged him…

I’m sure all the other salesmen will clue him in for next time. But for now… yeah… good work, Burl!

Well Susan, I disagree. The sales man took him for a ride. He got tilt steering (For their extra inches) , AM-FM radio, cruise control ( he won’t know how to use) Air cond. /heat. Also Wi fi (they don’t know what it is but it’s necessary according to the salesman) and also a net in the trunk to keep all the groceries from falling over. That all adds up.Burl bought it and now he’s as smart as Joy thinks he is. I sure wouldn’t want the car or the payments. Look at the book.

I used to worry about such things. But I’ve come to see that:.1 – You can’t suppress all the crooked deals.2- You can only suppress the the most obvious.3 – Therefore, you protect only the dumbest victims,4 – And leave the remaining clever deals to victimize the less dumb.5 – And that means the profoundly stupid get taken, too.6 – So, let it be easy and obvious, with no need to be clever.7 – And let the stupid take their proper place in the food chain. .Someone is going to get their money, anyway.

If you think mikie2 was kidding about predatory lending and regulation (or lack thereof) in Texas just watch the following.

Hide the good credit cards…” Don’t bother; I’m sure they’re not worth anything.
