Actually,I live in a city where the secondary streets aren’t always plowed. I stock up on some extra stuff before winter rears its nasty head. And of course, Mr. Petterson had to slip in a fat joke or two. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!
It’s so easy to judge isn’t it? You’d think differently if you had to take a prescription that caused your body to bloat or if you had a slow thyroid. I don’t but I have dear friends who do. They’ve been very hurt by comments about their size. You’d do better to think before speaking.
I know I’m a day late, but here the phenomenon is so common it’s mentioned every time snow flurries are forecast (I haven’t heard if the latest forecast is that they are still possible sometime tomorrow). It’s possible that some of the folks who seem like they have been storing up extra bulk for the winter may be principally concerned about having milk & bread and perhaps other staples on hand for their kids or grandkids . . . also they go for batteries, candles, kerosene fuel, and such in case the power goes out, possibly for an extended period if ice pulls down the wires or causes limbs to fall across them, etc.
P.S. Snow and ice are fairly uncommon around here, so most people don’t have tire chains, and I live about halfway up a hill which can be difficult to get this far and almost impossible to get any further up when it’s icy and one doesn’t have chains or at least (maybe) 4WD, so people in places like this may as well plan to stay in place until it warms and thaws, which fortunately is almost never more than a couple of days or so . . .
