The real issue was/is that Obama did not give his base all the “goodies” they wanted: immigration reform, legalization of POT, a hefty raise in the minimum wage, etc. So, they rebelled by not voting. Which is exactly what the GOP wanted!
Boy are you delusional . Americans hate Obamacare 2 to 1.
It’s you, I’m afraid, who are delusional. The Kaiser Family Foundation, which has been tracking this issue for some time now, found that 43% (way off 2/3) of polling respondents have negative views of the law. And many, many provisions of the law are popular across the board, including Medicare expansion, no exclusions based on preexisting conditions, and the like. Even something like Kynect, which is an Obamacare insurance exchange, has achieved great popularity in that very red state. Basically, when you remove the name “Obamacare,” a whole lot more folks all of a sudden like the law.
I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating old white men Joni Ernst, Tim Scott, Mia Love, Nikki Haley and Elise Stefanik on their historic victories.
I’m not sure if you read that word, “constituency.” And of course no one party’s going to have a lock on 100% of any given demographic. But really, take a look at photos of state and national Republican conventions, and tell me who the overwhelming majority of delegates are. Your argument is nothing but a non sequitur wrapped in a red herring.
Pretty appropriate cartoon. At this point, liberal Democrats can either blame millions of voters(political suicide), thousands of Democratic politicians/ideologues(themselves), or that one guy in the White House. This has already begun. Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu has begun the Senate runoff by attacking her opponent, Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy, for voting with Obama too often.
Doesn’t exactly look like a 2:1 margin, does it? Also keep in mind that a significant percentage of those who oppose the ACA do so because they feel it doesn’t go far enough.
As far as your assertion about black support for Obama, where’s your evidence that they’re supporting him solely because of race? Sounds to me like the assertion of someone who filters a whole lot through race himself.
You’re either really bad at numbers or a fan of Fermi estimation at low quantities.
And that’s why Nancy “Pass it to know what’s in it” Pelosi, is Minority Speaker?
You forgot to address that other part of my argument, which is that when people are asked about the components of the ACA without invoking the term “Obamacare,” strong majorities support those provisions. (Yes, even the markets.)
Also keep in mind that Democratic candidates have been largely running away from Obamacare since not too long after it was passed. This is a huge weakness of congressional Democrats: they get too easily scared of actually running strong campaigns for something. This has more to do with branding than the substance of the law.
Further, this year’s turnout was the worst since 1942. Not exactly rip-roarin’ mandate numbers.
the mandates that Obama illegally postponed
You mean the ones that the Republicans kept pushing him to postpone?
Are you denying that Obama Approval Ratings amongst Blacks was in the mid 90s during his first term…
What I’m taking issue with is your assertion that African Americans are so simple-minded that they would simply vote for someone based on that person’s race. What do you want to bet Tim Scott posted up much worse numbers than Obama among black voters? What do you want to bet that Clinton, Gore, and Kerry all did better among black voters than Tim Scott did? You’re the one claiming “99%” of black voters went for Obama because he’s black. That’s frankly insulting and, yes, racist. It may piss you off, but there you have it. You admirably declare that you’ll pull the lever for conservative black men because of their policies. And yet you deny that the majority of black folks may be doing exactly the same thing.

This is what happens when only a third of the folks come out to vote. The Democrats have a serious, serious midterms problem.

Never ceases to amaze me how people will vote against their own best interests.

To complete the cycle, draw in the Obama symbol kicking Valerie Jarrett-out of the White House.
