When was the last time you saw a pie on a window sill to thaw? That’d send a passer-by to the dentist.

I bet if those Pilgrims knew that they were doing basically something Pagan in their form of a Harvest ritual. They would NOT have done it.

How I long for those days—days when a ‘home-baked from scratch’ pie was the ‘norm’ and not a ‘very great exception’ to the rule. Back when our family was younger(especially me) every Thanksgiving we had: Cherry pie, Apple pie, Pumpkin pie, and Mincemeat pie all bake from scratch. Generally, my wife handled the cherry and apple while I tackled the pumpkin and mincemeat(mainly because I am/was the only member of the family that would eat it) ! ! ! !

Only older houses have window sills big enough to put pies on to cool. Houses that were built with energy efficient windows don’t normally have large sills or any sill at all. Actually they are called stools but most people don’t know that. I wouldn’t trade my old house for a new one unless I was the designer and the builder worked directly with me on the specs but I digress. Happy Thanksgiving enough your selves and be safe.

Not only did they attract bugs, but The Katzenjammer Kids, too. Hilarity ensued.

I see she has a can of Crisco on the counter! I remember greasing a bird feeder pole with the stuff, and getting many hours of entertainment watching squirrels try to climb the pole and sliding back to ground level..Each time they slid down, they would lick their paws and try again. Eventually, they would reach the feeder and start to engorge themselves on bird seed until I went outside and reapplied the Crisco..Crisco, the perfect edible lubricant….I did find this hilarious video:
