One set of grandparents who were financially well off thought it was a big deal to give their grandkids a whole dollar for Christmas and expected undying gratitude. My other grandmother who was truly poor went to great lengths to hand make Christmas presents for her grandkids and you couldn’t assign a monetary value to them. Guess which was my favorite.
