I do have to agree… this strip doesn’t make a whole lot of coherent sense. Nice references to an historical plane, and the art is good as always. Just don’t understand how Obama is being linked to the isolated cases of Ebola here in the states.
I just don’t see the connection between Obama and the Ebola outbreak. It was the WHO that botched the African containment. While he requested a reduction in the funding for the CDC, it didn’t go through, so nothing there. I highly doubt Obama is that much of a monster to unleash Ebola on any population (I don’t like the guy’s policies, and I think he’s a tool, but even I don’t think he would go that far). I think it’s a stretch to directly connect Obama with the Ebola outbreak.
could it be ?? not a suggestion to drop an ebola bomb but rather the ebola bomb was already dropped on a country – the USA.???and reference to possibly being a greater disaster and horror than the nuclear bomb dropped on Japan in WWII.
one man’s(Ramirez’s) opinion – but it seems the ‘thought’ police are out in numbers again today. so sad that some people decide to be nothing more than bullies and name callers and character assassin rather than be discussers of ideas and possible solutions with the ability to allow others to express themselves, even if that is opposite of what they believe, and react with graciousness to those who are in disagreement with them on how to handle the problems we all face.
America’s possible new slogan when it comes to citizens interacting with each other – ‘we are right and we will force you to believe it, even if we don’t have all the facts straight and have to bully you to do it!’
emotional outbursts and sensationalized half truth ‘news’ stories take the place of fact finding and reserved judgment till ALL facts that can be ascertained are in.
This ’toon is nicely done, well drawn, gets the point across about how ebola might spread, but, there is NO CONCEIVABLE REASON TO INCLUDE THE OBAMA REFERENCE! (Capital letters? Why, yes, I was yelling).
@ Steam Vapor – The fact that the government has NOT imposed a travel ban is why the Obama ref. And the PROBABLE cause for you yelling is the total disintegration of the presidents administration such that even the liberal press are turning against him. If ten years from now historians don’t rate this President on par with Carter I will be amazed.
Ramirez should however inform his readers that the plane is paid for and flown by the RNC! Yep, a guy with Ebola invades the country, and Obama did it, after all, the guy was from Africa, yep, all Obama’s fault.
In case anyone is wondering about the implications of the cartoon, yes, Ramirez IS implying that Obama deliberately dropped the Ebola virus on the US.-He’s following the lead of Fox News psychiatrist Keith Ablow and Bill O’Reilly, who said that Obama is more partial to Africa than Americans.
Trying to restrict air passenger travel is a fool’s errand. First off, free-marketers (you know who you are) would pitch a hissy-fit, because the government would be keeping people (the airline industry) from making money. Second, as MikeFive properly pointed out a couple days ago, there are other ways a person can travel from West Africa to the US other than direct/non-stop. All it would take is one person to travel to Poland, then Hong Kong, then London, then New York. It doesn’t have to be subterfuge, it could be business-related travel.
Yes, we could pay attention to passports and dates, but the more steps involved, the more likely a mistake can be made.
Hmm, while I’m disappointed in the Obama admnistration’s “lack of transparency” on many issues, and the continued “classification” of all kinds of information to keep it secret, or away from the press, I CAN see with all this idiocy over Ebola, and now the “Czar” the right demanded, now against it, just because he did it.
The only way Obama can do anything without it being opposed on the right and in the press, is to not say what he’s doing. The “loyal opposition” here at home does look a lot like ISIL propganda videos, only minus the beheadings, so far.
Bunch of simpletons in the first 4 posts.0 says he doesn’t think a travel ban would be “THE MOST effective tool”!!!!!Hey tools! He’s supposed to use EVERY tool available to protect Americans.Instead, he appoints a political lawyer who is a proven loser.Good job Dems!
Hatred bends the mind. An artist of such prodigious talent who produces these puerile toons is so sad. Can you imagine what Michale Ramiriz could offer the world if the lens of his ‘reality’ was not so warped by bias and, well, hatred.
What’s matter SizeofaPea? About 90% of these editorial cartoonists are flacking for Obama. But being the snarky liberal that you are, it just gravels your tushy that their are a few who don’t.
^Actually, both “lefty” and “rightie” ‘toonists here have gotten on Obama’s case, repeatedly, and negatively. They respond to what they see in public, and the “media” for their perspectives, as well as what Congress does for content.
Mel Brooks produced the movie that actually focuses on the reality of the situation: “Blazing Saddles”.
What’s so sad about Ramirez is that he does such a fantastic job on airplane caricatures, but he tries to make conservative positions “fly”, and it’s a hopeless cause.
Maybe he is a huge fan of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, and has been looking for a good oppor-toon-ity to show off his handy work. OK, bad puns aside, maybe he really likes planes.
