Don’t recall ever seeing brown wine before, cd. I do think you are correct.

    Two-Buck Chuck, from Trader Joe’s…

(Speaking of brown wine, did you see the movie “Bottle Shock”? At one point an entire batch of Chardonnay turns brown, because the vintner made it TOO PURE.)

There was an old Bob Newhart episode where Howard was celebrating something, so he brought Bob and Emily a couple of cans of Champagne. “Zippy – Made from real grapes! See back label for ballpoint pen offer.”

Aisle 6, that’s where the wine in a box is.

Last week I had a glass of a German Riesling in a nice restaurant. I was surprised it was so good for what appeared to be a no-name brand, with no vineyard specified and none of those special qualifiers the Germans love.

I later found the wine’s brand on Wikipedia and learned it claims to be 800 years old, the oldest vineyard in Germany, with special labeling privileges that make it unnecessary to state the town or vineyard.

If you have a taste for sweet wines and can find “Schloss Vollrads” Qualitaetswein for only $6.50 a glass, it’s a wonderful wine.

Actually, a screwtop cap is much better for wine than a cork, and more quality vinyards are moving toward using them. Boxes, too.
