While I am not known as a conservative on these boards, I must admit that the issue of naming a particular sports organization after a minority group is not that important to me. We have far, far more important items to work on in our discussions than this. Some would take that to be a more conservative position, if so, then so be it. It is not that the issue itself is so unimportant in itself, it is that it is relatively unimportant when compared to other issues!! And from what I have seen recently that is even a reasonable stance with many minority groups as well!

Non-native Americans not bothered by team name being racial epithet for native Americans. Quelle surprise

Let us rename the team the Washington Rednecks. Put Jeff Foxworthy’s likeness out as the new face of the team. Reword the fightsong – “Hail to the Rednecks!” “Crackers on the warpath!” – oh the irony

Redskin is a derogatory term. End of story. I’m sure you can find black people that don’t find the ‘N’ word racist too.

I was imagining the Alabama Wife Beaters, Oklahoma Trailer Trash, and the West Virginia Buck Tooth Hillbillies.

1% of the population cares about these sports nicknames that have been around for decades. I guess we should cater to the 1%ers.

Shelly, who will finish his single presidential term in January, has clashed with his own tribal council, which voted 9-2 in April to formally oppose the Washington Redskins name. He was also accused of going behind the back of tribal leaders when he co-hosted a golf tournament with Mr. Snyder’s Original Americans Foundation.http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Sports/2014/1013/Washington-Redskins-racist-What-do-the-Navajo-really-think
