Um… Mulan and Aurora have their mothers. I know Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Pocahontas and Ariel don’t have theirs shown.

An education is no guarantee of success. If you have a single mother unable to provide financial support, chances are you will have to take on a boatload of debt to go to college. That puts you far behind the career starting line, requiring a decade or more of low wage work since you can’t intern free, and unable to borrow to start a business for at least another decade. Then there’s the problem that you may find yourself in a profession you grow to hate, that you have no aptitude for, or is so crowded, you will die figuratively or literally waiting for enough people to retire so you can advance, a la teaching. Not getting an education doesn’t seem to be much of an option either.

There was a fellow standing outside a defunct FotoMat booth, singing “Some Day My Prints Will Come”

They would be too smart to run off with a guy they just met then wouldn’t they?

There are NO princes out there and the last time that I looked in the Philadelphia Inquirer, there was nothing in the Employment section for “Princesses Wanted.”
