I’ve been thinking…..maybe they should open one of those cat cafes I’ve been reading about.
Could be a win/win situation for the cats and customers who don’t want to be tied down 24/7 in caring for a cat. Oh wait, cats don’t have owners…they have servants.

No nightmares – a kid that age dreams of being grown up, and, wow, 5th grade is a sort of turning point, old enough to start earning some money, and learning to manage it. Gene is pulling her in, inviting her to be part of her mothers dream.

I wish JJ would draw the Shrimp a wee bit cuter. I also hope that the story stays with Gene & her mother & back to Arlo & Janis often. The strips that have been done of the Shrimp & her school mates were boring.

Give the kid a break. All her young life was spent at home waiting for her mother or grandfather to come home late after ‘closing time’. She just got a taste of ‘normal family life’ and wants to enjoy it for a while.

Fifth graders today are younger than we were in fifth grade. We have 2 nieces and 2 nephews who are past 5th grade. In fifth grade they are more like husband and I were in MAYBE 3rd grade.
Around here there is legally no minimum age for a child to be home alone, but husband was director of an agency for children with problems and according to the state children’s protection people – if a child is left home and is not yet 12 years of age they will intervene as the child is too young to be home alone.
