The boy is father to the man. Do we not dream of silly things that happened decades ago, grown up but still retaining that old offended or angry point of view, and the urge to act in kind? .And some cultures – ours included — get off on such subtle and childish insults that others of similar mind certainly pick up on and snidely appreciate.. When I was young I thought how great it would be as an adult, not having to put up with childish behavior. Man, was I disappointed. In many ways it’s even worse now.
