Yep, about the only wildlife I actively dodge are skunks and anything big enough to cause damage to the vehicle. The ones that try getting to the cats food on the back porch are often targets if they’re on the road.

The rule to go by is to wait for a car to pass so it can light the way across.

Once there was a family of squirrels who seemed to take this same delight in purposely running in front of oncoming cars. We named them the Lemming family and came up with this song (to the tune of “The Addams Family”):

♫♪ They’re fuzzy and they’re furryAcross the street they scurryTo die they’re in a hurryThe Lemming Family! ♪♫

It’s in the Wild Creature Manual. Cross only when you can bother someone by doing it.

Once I pulled out of my drive way and was still driving slow when a deer jumped out of the ditch behind me, turned, ran along side the car till he got ahead of me, then cut across in front of me and went into the ditch on the other side.

@Vegas ViperI cam up with a parable about the chicken who crossed the road:Why did the chicken cross the road, because she saw a rooster strutting his stuff. Why did the rooster cross the road, because he saw a hen gazing at his fineness. What happened when they met in the road, the farmer’s truck ran them over.Morale of the story: look both ways before creating a life changing event.

I swear I’m behind drivers who wait at stop signs for other cars to show up before they go every time I’m in a hurry. I didn’t know the cars were driven by squirrels, but I shoulda figgered.

In Georgia, we have a joke:Q. “Why did the chicken cross the road?”A. “To show the opossum it could be done”Note: we pronounce the latter animal “possum”

While driving thru a residential area one morning on my way to work, two huge dogs chasing each other (probably in lust) T-boned into the side of my car! Horrible!

I don’t brake for squirrels; I might cause an accident. Besides if you miss them, they turn around and run back,

I remember a squirrel that i nicknamed “daredevil” because it waited for the exact moment that it could run in front of my car and at the same time run in front of another car on the other side of the street coming the other way (This was a 2-lane street). The speed limit was about 40 so it didn’t have a lot of time to get across. The squirrel was able to run in front of my car and in front of the other car on the other side and as far as I know, made it to the other side of the road.
