Danae: Thanks...using the wrong word could've ruined the credibility of my research. Kate: Got it...so is it about your namesake in greek mythology? Danae: No...it's for science class. Kate: Just as an F.Y.I., Daddy...Danae has gone into homework default mode. Ned: Clear my calendar for a probably teacher's meeting...got it.

A quick recap on the family, thanks to Wikipedia:
“Joe’s ex-wife and Danae and Kate’s mother, Jennifer Pyle, is not seen and seldom referred to. She is said to have run off with a biker while the family was on a trip to New Hampshire.”
Brenda Santa Fe was the woman in the Kennebunkport (KPT) sweatshirt who usually was at Flo’s Diner when Captain Eddie told his stories. She had a crush on Joe but he wasn’t interested, and she ran off with another man. He actually did get engaged to her sister Victoria Santa Fe, but that storyline seems to have died.
