I think that they are trying to break him of the habit of scratching at the door… but why is my question? That is how I know my dog wants to come in and go out ;)
Burgundy2 G’morning! I had tried to squirt/spray the water bottle directly at the vicious and mean dog in neighbor’s porch but that didn’t work very well. I tried to tell that dog to stop growling and barking very loudly and viciously. I gave up. My another neighbor complained about the dog barkings. She tried to reason with the neighbor about the barking and growling but he told her with F-word. She was lost respect and filed the complain against the neighbor for dog barking. I told her that I had the same thing and every renters and owners of the condos have the flyer with rules and etc. One of the rules tells us that the barking nusiance is NOT allowed but the neighbor didn’t care and let his vicious and mean dog kept barking and growling very loudly and viciously every day. I tried to call the person at the property office about the barking nusiance three times but it was never successed very well. sighhhhh! with my eyes rolling up/down!
Shooting water at animals doesn’t work. It just makes them not trust you.
Oh look, John did the shopping. I suppose being too cheap to buy her a cartoon car actually goes even deeper in that she’s stuck at home, so she can’t go out spending HIS money, and that’s the way he likes it. He really does seem that way to me. Hmmmmmmm… this just keeps getting weirder.

@all of you with mean, barking, and bighting neighbor dogs—use ammonia in the spraygun. Worked like a charm when I had a bicycle paper route.
I’ll ignore Mrs.LukeSkywalker’s passionate 1st half of her comment above and will deal with part 2.
She is absolutely correct with her comment about ammonia. Plain water sprayed is one thing but ammonia should NEVER be sprayed on anyone or any animal EVER. If you wanted something stronger than water try cayenne powder (pepper spray). I’m not a big fan of that either but that’s much better than ammonia.
Actually, ammonia is a very effective (and common) dog repellent as dogs cannot stand its smell. While ammonia is rather toxic, a dilute solution (only a very little ammonia is needed) shouldn’t cause the dog any harm. In any case, actually spraying the dog isn’t necessary since it’s the smell that is the deterrent.
Of course, other, safer substances can be used as well. Cayenne pepper (as recommended by BigHug), vinegar, or citrus fruit are also effective because dogs don’t like their smells either.
guess what people, dog trainers tell you to use diluted vinegar water to curb barking. When the dog is barking you quickly squirt them in the mouth with it. it works and the dog does not mis-trust you later. and when you are training a dog not do a bad habits, squirting them with water is fine. you just have to do it so they don’t know you are doing it, it works as the same princpal as with cats.But as soon as they catch you you have to stop tho. And I agree with shinker1, that’s how my dog tells me he wants to come in. Outside of all the mean comments and misinformation, it was a very funny comic. laughed my head off. My fave is the second panel.
A spray bottle with water works beautifully for cats. I’ve never heard about it for dogs. BTW don’t use ammonia when dealing with cats especially indoors unless you want the cats peeing all over the house. The ammonia smell is close to cat pee.
Doesn’t vinegar sting if it gets into the eyes – humans, dogs or cats? Not sure I’d give Michael the squirter anyway after what he managed to do with the hose at the car wash a few days ago and certainly not with anything but water in it. Squirtguns do work for some cats – others sit right next to it while they defy you.
