Congress, voted in by the taxpayers, spent the SS trust funds. This IOU is over fifty years old. Also why social security is part of the national debt. No change by the present congress, this is why we need to vote them out.
It was my hero Ronald Reagan who spent the social security surplus money on pet projects and then shifted the burden of its solvency to the middle class.
If a lot of them hadn’t considered the Social Security Trust the Congressional “slush fund”- monitored the actuarial tables, and not sucked it up with SSI, their wouldn’t be the problem.
FDR pushed through socail security. 16 people paid in to support 1 reitree. LBJ great society gave money away to surviving spouse, childeren, Medicare (not a separate deduction from paycheck yet), dialysis patients and more.
It isn’t a fault of congress, it is the fault of the citizens for trusting “big government” to take care of them. If big gov can’t manage to keep bridges from crumbling or imported food not contaminated, why would you put them in charge of your retirement?

I cannot see this comic, but I like to imagine that it is fairly well drawn, but entirely devoid of humor. That’s the Lisa Benson way!

SSI was never meant to be your sole retirment tool. It was meant to provide a floor.
If you entire retirment plan is SSI you are a fool!
