Chicken: Grandpa died when I was 18. While helping grandma clean up his stuff, we found his medals from World War II. Until that moment, I didn't even know he had fought in the war. He had never talked about it. Ever.
They had the VFW halls to be able to share with each other. It was their “group therapy”A lot of Vietnam vets went there but were initially discouraged because most of the WWII vets believed they weren’t in a “real” war. By 1980 things changed, but it took a while for the acceptance to fully take effect.Jeff, please quit judging people. You’ve obviously lived a charmed life, otherwise you wouldn’t be so righteous.

yeah, my dad could be described as a reluctant veteran. He was stationed on New Guinea.

War is not glamorous, and veterans have very few good memories of it. Blood and guts are the stuff of nightmares!
