Mrs. Olsen: Any questions? Oh, joy. Caulfield.
Caulfield: Why do grown-ups get all the height and all the nose hair?
Frazz: Do I sense envy?
Caulfield: I'm only envious of the one when I have to look up at the other.
Nose hairs are actually evolutionarily helpful. They are thought to help prevent larger particulates from entering the delicate nasal cavity. They are only a coarse sort of screen, however, much like the old style furnace filters of floss were.
A good teacher will anticipate inappropriate questions — I will preface calling on a student with “Does your question have to do with this assignment?”
Talk about putting two and two together…Caufield does it again in finding/encountering a pair that most people would never have considered. And to refer to it as “envy” is the height of sarcasm….
