That is sad. 20,000 is a lot.

However, to put things in perspective, this year alone, Muslims have murdered 17,875 and injured 16,973. This year alone. www.thereligionofpeace.com

To put the 20,000 deaths in actual perspective, here is the CDC data for causes of death in the US alone for 2011, the latest year available. Ebola would replace pneumonitis for #15.http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr61/nvsr61_06.pdf

Bollocks cartoon. Ebola is a hobby disease for DEATH.These are numbers that make a real difference:Source: WHO:

Top 10 killer diseases in Africa:

    01 – Pneumonia / Lower respiratory infections (bacterial, viral, and environmental) 4 million deaths02 – HIV/AIDS (3 million deaths in 2004; somewhere else I read 605 000 more recently)03 – Malaria 1 to 5 million deaths04 – Diarrhoea (8% of all deaths in Africa, 2,2 million)05 – Tuberculosis 2 million deaths06 – Measles 530 000 deaths07 – Whooping Cough (200 to 300 000 deaths)08 – Tetanus (214 000 deaths)09 – Meningitis (174 000 deaths)10 – Syphilis (157 000)

Any death to any disease, like Ebola, is as tragic as any attributed to above; to die from Ebola is scary but must be put in perspective

Jim Guess, much like his name, is thumb-sucking those numbers

To thumb-suck:South Africanism; To pull out of thin air an apparent fact and make it sound plausible.

Hiram, Sorry, but your ‘facts’ are total lies.

omQ, Ad hominem attacks don’t change facts.

EVERYONE! Go to the link I provided. Check for yourself. ALL are documented!

Here it is again. www.thereligionofpeace.com This is a site that tracks Muslim attacks around the world. Do they get them all? I doubt it. But ALL listed attacks are verified.

omQ,Your point is well taken on the top ten killer diseases. That too is very sad.

But your second post shows your real colors. God help you.

Sometimes it seems like the only way to help Africa is to get all of the humans out of there.

“Does anyone else besides me find the numbers quoted in Jim Guess’ post a bit strange? Such precise numbers for murders and injuries…seems a bit unbelievable that they have such precise numbers…unless they made them up.”I did notice he used an anti-Islam website as his source. I had come across a violently racist website while searching for something on an unrelated topic. I suppose I should follow Jim’s lead and use it for a source proving the inferiority of non-whites.

The mutation rate on this virus is “concerning”, making vaccines more difficult to “master”, like all the flu mutations every year. Malaria of course kills more, but netting is proving to be a valuable preventative in many areas, better in fact than DDT, just like clean “breeder free” water sources are of high value.

One of the issues from the “science” perspective is also that deniers of evolution, might want to wake up too??

Article from the journal Nature on the spread of Ebola.Reading between the lines, we find the (approximately) 10,001st disproof of the existence of a loving and omnipotent god (if he does exist, he is the sadist, greater than whom none can be imagined), as well as the (approximately) 20,001st disproof of creationism (the virus continues on its merry mutating way, just like insects developing resistance to pesticides, and bacteria resistance to drugs, regardless of what half-educated preachers say). Not a happy thought, but understanding is still far better that the appeal to consequences fallacy which most creationists will adduce at this point in the discussion.

“Religious readers may object that the harm in all these cases is done by perversions of religion, not by religion itself. But religious wars and persecutions have been at the center of religious life throughout history. What has changed, that these now seem to some people in some parts of the world to be only perversions of true religious belief? Has there been a new supernatural revelation, or a discovery of lost sacred writings that put religious teachings in a new light? No—since the Enlightenment there has been instead a spread of rationality and humanitarianism that has in turn affected religious belief, leading to a wider spread of religious toleration. It is not that religion has improved our moral sense but that a purely secular improvement in our moral values has improved the way religion is practiced here and there.” Steven Weinberg, Facing Up pp. 255-256
