40% tax rates is what you get when you spend $billions weekly fighting stupid foreign wars, and that’s not even counting the cost of maintaining the empire through 900 foreign military bases. Of course there are other reasons for moving to Canada – cheaper health care, better health care for the masses, longer life expectancy, higher median standard of living, more economic freedom, more advanced human rights, more peace loving, and there’s nothing like a Timmy and a breakfast bagel to start the day. But Canada does have one problem similar to the Americans – how do you stop those people from the south from sneaking across the border!
Taxes are higher in Canada, but citizens get more for their dollar – which would be even better if they got Harper out of there. US corporate taxes are false labeling. There are so many loopholes that no large corporation pays the stated amount, and in the case of the “awl bidness”, gets a whopping subsidy in return.
“…..@Gypsy8 – you liberal moronic fool. 40% corporate tax rates are killing the US’s productivity and job market…..Believe it or not, that statement will not get you the Nobel prize for economics.
The corporate tax rate hits 40% in order to pay for cell phones for those who don’t want to buy them. And for healthcare for those in the country illegally. And for school for those who are here illegally. And for the give- away that is the Earned Income Tax Credit. That allows “low income” people to get a tax “refund” in the thousands of dollars even though they have not put anything into the pot. And this does not mention the duplicative programs to house and feed all the folks who prefer to live off of the workers rather than work for themselves.
yes griff ge paid no USA income tax because they transferred all profit to foreign subsidiaries // so opendance you think the USA should have a vat to pay for health care?
Chip, even in his first term, Obama has been nagging a deaf congress to do SOMETHING about the corporate tax structure. Has ANYONE called for any action, perhaps a committee to sit down with corporate reps and take a look at the whole picture and make some recommendations? Not just about keeping U.S. business here, but to lure many others back?
(And don’t let just the corporate execs write the new laws, as is the Republican wont. CONGRESSMEN, those who WE elected to make the decisions, should do so!)
No Republican plan to reduce loopholes can pass that Republican House of Representatives. It’s impossible, since they are not a governing party. They are a goody-distributing party.
Interesting that American oil corporations pay OVER 40% tax in West African countries to get their oil, but in the U.S. they pay less than a quarter of that, or fire their accountants.
But the joke doesn’t work if you don’t lie about the tax rate. Come to think of it, the joke doesn’t work if you don’t create an entire lie based on the idea that the tax rate was set by the current administration.

one more time: The Federal tax rate is NOT 40%. The tax schedule is graduated starting at 15% and working it’s way up.
Let’s avoid all the fuss and go to a value added tax.
