Oscar competitiveness reaches a new low at Lio’s animation viewing-fest!

I love the Lio statue. “And the Lio goes to … … . . ” How cool would that be?!!

OK, we’ve missed many of the year’s movies (lack of income will do that to you sometimes).

So we have Up, and Princess Frog, but is that a Fox or one of the dogs from Up, and the little girl on the guy are from - ??

The Girl is Coraline and the Guy is from “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs”

Hey, where are the giant smurfs?

I don’t know who the fox is, but I recognize all of the others.

But Cloudy With a Chance… wasn’t nominated, and the characters from Secret of the Kells are missing.

(And that’s Mr Fox, from The Fantastic Mr Fox.)

Oh, and since I missed cdward’s post earlier - Avatar’s nominated for Best Picture, not Best Animated Feature, so it doesn’t belong here.

Lio should know that cartoons, by tradition, can’t be drawn together… nyuk nyuk nyuk

Up seriously should win. And is it fair that the frog is being used as a weapon?

Why bother? Up’s gonna win the Best Animated Feature Oscar…period.

I went to a Q-and-A with some of the animators who worked on both Fantastic Mr. Fox and Coraline the other day, and even they say Pixar’s got this one in the bag.

( If it were up to me, Coraline would get the nod,. I really didn’t think Up was that good. )

It’s a good thing that there wasn’t a “Shrek” nominated this year………..

I drew this this strip before the nominations came out…it was my guess at the nominees…so my apologies to THE SECRET OF KELLS and its artists.

Maybe it’s time to see what else is on. Alone.

If they made a Lio animated feature film, who would play the voice of Lio?

But If Mark were to make a film, where would he find the time to keep up with his regular cartoon work? Would Lio or Heart have to suffer?

Yesterday, I saw a program consisting of the nominated animated shorts and several that received honorable mentions. If the program is playing at a theater near you, go see it ! All of the cartoons were excellent & the ones that were meant to be funny were VERY funny. (Some of the cartoons are also online.)

coraline is one the best and most remarkable films of any type i’ve seen in years.

I would think that Lio’s favorite would be The Hurt Locker

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who thought Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs would get a nomination. Seriously, Secret of Kells? I’d barely heard of it, and even with a nom, it still isn’t playing anywhere near me. Gotta hate that “one week run in LA counts” loophole.

I think the Oscars would be a lot more fun to watch if there was a segment where the makers of bad movies would be punished. Just imagine Steve Martin being tarred and feathered, or Adam Sandler on the rack. (Sigh)

You shouldn’t invite them over again. At least not on Oscars night.

“Avatar” doesn’t belong in this group - it’s “Pocahontas” meets “Dances with Wolves”.

I’ve seen all these except “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and they all beat “Avatar” for script.

HA HA HA!!! Great strip, Mark! I think that assuming the awesome (and totally overlooked) “Cloudy” would get a nomination, rather than “Kells” (I thought it was a beautiful film, but it’s even MORE overlooked - it’s only getting a big run this month) was an understandable “mistake”. ;) Who are these readers that didn’t bother to watch most of the other animated films (except “Kells”, naturally, since it only ran in one or two theaters last year)?They were all great! For SHAME!

And then it all goes black… (I mean the cablevision-abc fight (the winner for best drama)) even though it was settlled 30 minutes into the Oscars.

I think a Lio movie would be very cool—or even a TV special, maybe?

Lio, you need to pick your guests a little better.

I hope Lio learns an important lesson from this.

I’m surprised that Lio didn’t invite the kids from the Secret of Kells. Needless to say, Carl and Russell emerged victorious from the fight with the award in hand (you can’t argue with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a box office gross of over $293 million.).

Lio TV special for Valentine’s Day? Please? Pleeeez?
