Ted Rall for July 28, 2014
Transcript:
Possible Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio says there isn't enough room in the United States for the 77,000 children who entered the U.S. illegally this year. Is that true? At 84 persons per square mile, the United States of America has one of the lowest population destinies in the world. To compare population densities. Not exactly hellholes, right? Throughout U.S. history, influxes of immigrants, legal and/or illegal have been followed by economic expansions. (Man: Yeah, but that's just cause and effect we're republicans! No science.) Clearly, Rubio has never looked out the window while flying over the United States. Hint: Lots and lots of empty land. Either that, or he's a self-hating opportunist racist. (Woman: Look out the window, Marco!) (Man: At what?!)

If Rubio’s dad was an illegal, Rubio must have been born here in order to even think of running for president. Did Rubio’s father ever become “legal.” How?

3rd panel is tiresomely Eurocentric.

What a brilliant argument, Ted. So what do you say to the thousands who have applied and waited years to immigrate here LEGALLY? Screw them right? If they don’t have the resolve to trek across the border illegally maybe they should stay home, I guess.
You and obammy wouldn’t be so caring about the illegals if you knew they would vote conservative, would you.

REMNANT….your argument lacks logic….we need to KNOW who enters our country….and not just take their word for who they are….ALL COUNTRIES CHECK….EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD CHECKS….mexico checks them before they can pass through mexico….LAWS remnaqnt….LAWS!

Playing with the numbers a bit. I live alone on 10 acres. In fairness, I do large animal rescue and grow my own hay for them. Then there’s the house, the barn, the shed, the driveway, etc. Bottom line, 1 person on 10 acres equals 64 people per square mile. Slightly below the average stated in the strip, but still makes me think.

Using Rubio’s logic, they should be sent to Wyoming or Alaska, the least dense U.S. states. Where they could become citizens and take over control of the fracking and oil industries. And have those states join OPEC. Whee!

Yup, let’s open the mind, and look outside of Europe. Bangladesh at 2600, India at 850, Haiti at 760, Pakistan at 525. Even Mexico at 140. To strive for.

A tragic irony for Marco Rubio: no matter how he panders on the immigrant issue, no matter how heartless a conservative he presents himself as, for rank and file Republicans he’ll always be one of those dark-skinned “others” and thus an object of scorn. His Catholic religion will hurt him the same way. Bobby Jindal will have the same problems.

Not to worry. Wait a couple weeks and Marco Polio will have a completely different position.

“…judging the future by the past. … It is a false argument.” So you’re not certain the Sun will come up tomorrow?

Yep, that’s the Republican way. Find the least objectionable candidate, for any office, and put him/her out there. Question is, does Marco fit those criteria? Does Marco remind the base of Mitt? If so, then Marco is our man!
