Eating out is already overpriced – just because the money doesn’t go to the wait staff shouldn’t be the diners’ problem.

What if each table had a tip jar?

Is the percentage based on the cost of the food before the taxes or after?

If any waiter spends merely four minutes on serving me, I don’t care if the meal was $2.99 or $200, the tip will be commensurate with the service performed. Four minutes work isn’t worth $30-40.

I have a minimum tip. Just because the food is cheap, doesn’t mean that the service isn’t worth something. for a really cheap meal, it could be upwards of 40%-50%.

So if it’s 5:00, does he tip 1:00?

Whatever happened to paying someone a decent wage for a a job well done in the first place? Tipping is only good for the employer — he stiffs the employee wages and benefits and expects the client to make up the difference.
