Is street violence a mental illness? I think it may be a form of mass naiveté. Guns bolster the sense of bravado and the need to just put it back in their pants isn’t heeded. As for marijuana scientific studies are few due to lack of funding. I can relate stories of a few that I am close to that have successfully used it to alleviate ongoing pain. Yes there are side effects but it still appears safer than the prescription drugs they had been using.

    Interesting comparison.

The ONLY purpose for firearms is to kill others, DaSharkie. That is what they are designed for. What other manner WOULD you use them for?And you, like many pro-gun folks, are shutting the barn door after the horse escaped. There’s no reason not to have firearms be safer as well as legal. It wouldn’t take much.I take no drugs stronger than caffeine — and I take that in Coke, which has far less than coffee — but I see no reason to ruin people’s lives for marijuana. Though I admit to a temptation to ban cigarettes. Nothing ruins a nice city walk like a few people puffing away and spoiling the air. And that’s independent of the carcinogenic poison gas aspects, of course…

Marijuana has been proven to have some significant health benefits. They just have not figured out what about it gives the help. They are in the mold stage before penicillin was extracted. They also have not sorted out the bad side effects yet. I am all for not filling up jails with minor marijuana users and keeping the money it generates north of the border.

You won’t ever eliminate guns. You won’t ever keep people from killing each other. It might be nice if you could make it much harder for the criminal element and the mentally disturbed from having guns. It might also be nice if you require someone to know something about gun safety and the law before they are able to purchase a gun, similar to the way we license drivers. I also don’t think letting people wander through the shopping mall with an AK-47 strapped on does much for the shopping experience of all the other customers.

Reducing gun magazine sizes saves lives. Outlawing assault-style weapons saves lives. Requiring background checks saves lives. You don’t have to outlaw all guns. It’s all a question of whether you’re pro-life or pro-killer.

In 3500 years, there have been zero recorded deaths from the health effects of marijuana. How you get from that to “just as bad as tobacco” is a mystery.

That’s a great idea! Instead of walking outside and having a criminal point a gun in your face, just buy a gun, stick it in your mouth and be one step ahead of the criminals. Just great!!

You’d sneer it away. All you need to disprove “zero deaths” for health effects is show me one. Fetch boy! Fetch!
