That type of test irritates me to no end….they take over the TV where you can’t change the channel…one night, we were having tornado warnings left and right…the local station was on top of everything….when the EBS took over to broadcast what was coming over the weather radio…which was far behind what we were getting locally.

Catman, you obviously do not know or understand how the EAS (Emergency Alert System) , which replaced the EBS, works….it does NOT take over the TV…you can change the channel..it DOES take over the TV station though…that’s the way it is designed…..but if not programmed right by the engineers, you will get late info and warnings (what if the tornado warning did not go off and your house got splattered by a tornado?? HOW would you feel then)..no LOCAL station can issue a weather watch or warning on its own…only the NWS can do that…sometimes they may issue it to the stations via email or other digital before it makes it to the NOAA WX radio system…As a radio engineer, I have always set the EAS box to relay WARNINGS but keep watches on manual relay or let the DJ (if one is actually there) to read the watch on the air..The system is there to HELP the public in times of threatening weather or other disasters..or would you raher just die from a tornado or gas release from a nearby plant or ? while you were watching a TV show??
