Despite having a surname in common with a prominent member of both the JFK and LBJ administrations, I frequently get asked “How do you spell that?” when I say my name. I usually respond, “T-H-A-T.” If they say anything or look at me funny, I usually reply, “Well, you asked, ‘How do you spell that?’ That’s how I spell that.”
