Some post-grad engineer at MIT must have been really reaching for a thesis topic.

My cat doesn’t do it that way at all. She puts her paw under running water (leaky faucet became a water fountain) and licks the water off of her now wet paw. I would have to have an abby normal cat.

One if my cats used to put her paw under the dripping faucet and then wash herself. Why waste spit when there’s fresh water around?

From little acorns Oak trees grow.I think that bit of info was interesting. I had always thought they scooped up the water with their tongue.

    What about dogs?

I had a cats who would only hold his paw under running water and lick it off. I am convinced he was too stupid to recognize water in a bowl. Why do I always end up with the brain damaged pets?

My kids would lie on the floor and watch the cat drink, occasionally gaining dirty looks by the cat. No high speed cameras necessary (although that is how it was originally discovered).

Emjcc…Our kids cats learned how to get into the cat food bag. So they put it into a metal trash container. They learned how to get the lid off. So they put a plastic bin upside down over it. They learned how to get that off. They put the lid on, then the plastic bin on…but they got them both off. They then added a big brick to them…but they got all three off. They had to hide the cat food in the storage area under the BBQ. I’m waiting to see if…when…they get the door open

Basic research is never a waste. The first transistor, the first laser didn’t seem to have much use, at first. A great deal of military research has bled (no pun intended) into civilian life. Most of the ICU instrumentation was spawned by military programs. It’s not always a one to one cross over but there’s always been someone who asked, what if?

I read the explanation and still do not understand it. Works for cats, though.
