If everyone stopped watching them and their autotelic drivel they would die away. I’ve been doing my part for decades.

But there’s no harm in trying Wiley’s speed-up method.

I’m assuming all the red comes from rotten tomatoes.

That backdrop belongs in the Guggenheim. New meaning for the term “performance art.”

what I would like to see, is a story line and some acting {good for a change} and then I would go back to the Movies.

At least it was just a Hollywood award ceremony and all they did was throw tomatoes. Next week: the NRA Awards!

This is cool. I may be wrong but looks to me like someone is trying to tell the hollywood audiance that being famous does not mean you are brilliant or the best man for the job so stay out of politics. I may be completely off, but that is my perception/

This award goes to the Actor/Actress who shown the least eye movement, whilst reading a teleprompter and standing in front of a green screen! The crowd erupts in a standing pail ovation,

What is that they put on editorial pages – An Opposing View? Anyhow, I always love watching the Oscars, and am glad I’m retired so I don’t have to get up early on Mondays. Since I once taught English, the movies have character development and plotting and stuff like that (usually), which interest me. I keep up with the movie reviews in newspapers, magazines. and radio. In my defense, I actually see a movie about once every two or three years. Lincoln was the last one, when our daughter was in town.

Hmm. McCauley Culken not only got booed off the stage, someone hit him with a pint of beer. I think assault and battery is a bit too strong of a response to someone being on stage.

L.G. I just looked up movies out December 31, 1999. First off, who knew there were tons of sites devoted to this stuff? Second, I didn’t see anything I’d bother seeing.

Wiley is using a double negative and is really saying “With any luck the next award will go to someone you think is more deserving than you”.Or, am I missing something here?

Hey, I’m with it. I can name at least a dozen actors, half of which might still be alive.

@annette143: Quote from Macbeth which I had to memorize years ago.

“Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,Creeps in this petty pace from day to dayTo the last syllable of recorded time,And all our yesterdays have lighted foolsThe way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor playerThat struts and frets his hour upon the stageAnd then is heard no more: it is a taleTold by an idiot, full of sound and fury,Signifying nothing.”

Ha, ha! Here in LA, every single awards show is Big News. And of course, they all billed as predictors of who will win at the Oscars or Emmys. I never watch them, Sam Rubin will fill me in the next day. If I don’t fast forward, that is.
