“…Man builiding expensive houses in fire dependent ecosystems…”.“What does arson have to do with climate change?”.This cartoon isn’t particularly about climate change. It is about wildfire in California. Arson is merely a tool to start a fire in a fire dependent ecosystem. That’s much of California and other American desert locales. A lightning strike could start the fire, it happens. The firebug probably knows how easy it is to start a huge wildfire in these areas. And, they want the fire they start.
^You must also then be aware that much of Florida has also been suffering drought for the past several years, and that human diversions of the water systems (like for sugar cane) there are responsible for damage to the natural environment, and even developers needs for water to sustain more growth.
^Obviously you’ve not noted the Glades, Big Cypress, or the sinkholes and other problems caused by climate change, poor water practices, and idiotic planning departments in Florida, for decades. BTW, my mom passed in January, after living a couple decades in Florida after moving there with my bother, who died five years ago. I’d been going back there on a fairly regular basis, and one good thing of my family members “leaving” , like most current Floridians seem to do, is that I don’t have to return.
Bruce: some things are just “life experiences”. The changes in water use DO make sinkholes more of a problem for Florida, but the incoming flood of folks, like retirees do indeed represent the biggest current cause, not indeed “climate change”.
An amusing aside possibly? My extremely right-wing brother after retiring, and getting both company retirement and health benefits, PLUS Social Security disability, complained bitterly when SSI cut him off, as his physicals said he was recovered enough to go back to work. He moved to Florida, after checking out Washington and Texas who also had no state income tax, because Florida would additionally, charge him less to register his motor home!! As his entire career was on government projects in “defense” corporations, he of course wanted to always see increases in “defense” spending, while cutting all social services, except to HIM!
