@Nabuqudu, I watched it ruin more than one family, just like drinking. And many people see no connection between the vast increase in drugs (legal and illegal, ironic) and the degrading that has happened in the last few decades.

@AlexikakosMy family makes the same salad, except we also add boiled potatoes and chopped onions. Make sure the vinegar is cider vinegar. It’s our biggest Easter tradition (specifically Easter because you have to harvest the greens before they bloom, or they get bitter).

As usual, Nab pulls random stuff from his ass and smears it on the comments page. First of all, he confuses legalization and decriminalization (not the same thing at all). Second, he flat out lies about the Portland homicide rate. The only sources i can find for the 90’s list about 50 per year, FAR short of the 1000 per year he claims.

Now I am not a fan of pot, nor do I much like what it does to people, but at least I don’t make up absurd and easily checked lies to support my position.

Weed can and will, be abused by some. The illegal weed culture spreads to other, worse drugs so abusing booze seems almost an after thought. Excess always destroys. The entertainment industry glorifies drug use, the Big Pharm companies pimp there’s a pill for everything. Between those two, it’s no wonder there’s a drug epidemic in the US.

Mrs. Olsen’s view of gardening is remarkably close to the view of any good teacher to their students. .It’s a pretty good life view for the rest of us, too. 8^)

I’ve lived in the Portland area for 40 years. Anyone who claims pot was legal here never lived here. 1,000 homicides a year? You must be high.

A weed is any plant that you don’t want to grow where it’s growing, Which is why grass in my garden is a weed, just as much as violets in the middle of the lawn.

I worked in drug treatment for several years. We didn’t treat alcohol addiction, since there were many other places dedicated to that purpose. We dealt mainly with opiate addiction, occasionally barbiturate addiction. Many of our clients were court ordered to obtain treatment. The number of marijuana cases we had to treat? Zero.
