I have had and do have cats. When they get hungry enough, they find their way down very quickly. Also, Ginger should not worry about the 200 lb St.Bernard. It’s the 50 lb Pit Bull that should concern her.
i’ve tried to teach ours to back down, but he prefers head first, and a ladder just drives him higher.
