I never had problems reading during the summer….just reading what they wanted me to read….they finally gave up.

We never were given a reading list for the summer and I have never had to be forced to read.

Repeat after me, Peter: “Would you like fries with that?” Your future in the fast food culinary arts awaits!

U.S. Marines are encouraged to read from the Commandant’s book list.

I’m with you AI. I read, constantly, as a kid, but rarely liked what I was told to read. Luckily “summer reading lists” were something I never heard of outside of comics.

I never understood why people don’t like to read. I always found it pleasurable. A good book is a wonderful escape. I remember bookworms being hung on the classroom wall in grade school that were made of paper rings corresponding to the number of books read. I had the longest one. :)

My Grandmother gave me a bunch of books for Christmas one year when I was a little kid. I remember opening a box and groaning and saying something about “dumb books” or something .There was Lassie, Combat , The Real McCoys, Mystery at Rustler’s Fort and several others. They sat untouched for the longest time. Then , like K.C., I picked one up and read the first few pages and thought that this stuff was actually pretty good.. That was it ! I’ve had my nose stuck in a book ever since.

@John PoweFunny! I choose not take take that as insult. In fact, we jarheads are not quite as dumb as we may seem to be. If ever there was a “dumb” service it is the Army, with the lowest standards of recruitment policies. USMC, the dep’t of the Navy.

What I wouldn’t give for a summer where I could just read and not be bothered with mowing, weedwhacking, working or chores of any sort. Only time I get to read anymore is when I’m on the pot.

In other words, he hasn’t even started reading the books yet. Happy 4th of July!
