Well, this has to be the most insightful comic Lisa Benson has done. There is a lot to think about in terms of the effect that increased participation in the labor force by women has had on overall wages. Conservatives directly or indirectly suggest that women should embrace the role of homemaker. Mostly from their values, but occasionally from the idea that women in the workplace are taking jobs from men. Lisa is actually bucking Conservative Wisdom! Praise the Hazel & pass the peas!Or, maybe I’m wrong & this is another diatribe against Obama.

Then again, there is the fact that all of the gains in national income have gone to a very few people….

^ 95th, 90th, 50th & 10th refer to the percent of people who make more or less than that amount. The 50th mark means half of us make more than $51,000, half make less. At the 95th percentile, 95% of people make less. This ‘median’ is generally a better measure of typical wealth than the average income. If my sister & i make $40,000 a year, but our brother makes $$50 million a year, our average would be $17 million a year. Obviously, not an accurate picture. If we were to include 2013, the gap would be even wider. Basically, if you work for a living, you’re falling behind people who are paid in stock options the investing class. You don’t even want to see the chart showing how the top .1% did compared to the rest of us. Even the 90 percenters might feel stiffed.

Hal was probably right, but then women had to go to work to keep the family income where it needed to be to maintain the standard of living the family was used to. Due mostly to onerous taxes inflicted upon us by our “benevolent government”.

“……JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but no, we have a community organizer who has never had to meet payroll or balance an account…..”.Thankfully, or the income disparity would be even greater.

“Something is not right with your chart.”Notice at the top, where it says “In 2012 Dollars”? The amounts are adjusted for inflation. Let me know if you need help understanding what that means.

Great toon. It’s the old Democrat trick of “Nevermind your real problems, look over here at this!”.Don’t worry about 49 Million Americans on Food Stamps, the lowest workforce participation rate since Jimmy Carter and middle-class incomes actually dropping in today’s dollars.
