When I was young I ate grapefruit with a spoon. In my adult years I peeled and ate it. In my middle age years I haven’t eaten it because of my cholesterol meds :-(
@geneking7320:When I was young, I had grapefruit forced on me at least twice a week. In my adult years, I have avoided it… because I could! To each his/her own!
I had several trees of Duncan grapefruit (full of seeds, but great tasting). Quit eating them due to the cholesterol med problem. Then a doctor told me they made the meds work better.
I cut around each segment, then either sprinkle with brown sugar or drizzle with honey, and warm it in the microwave for a minute or two. If I’m feeling really ambitious, I’ll run it under the broiler, instead.

And that is why, at my parents’ house, grapefruit was peeled and eaten out of hand. (Except on Thanksgiving)

It didn’t seem to make any difference in my case.
