Don’t let Holly get away with it!It puzzles me as to why seemingly intelligent kids just goof off their entire middle-school/high-school lives…then they graduate by seconds, and then they have no plans whatsoever. Or, if they have plans, they usually wash out of them… I know someone like that, and it is sad to watch him ruin his life. I guess he’ll learn by the school of hard knocks… ;)

Allow it max twice in month, but with price: two weeks grounded to get on line with studies. It is reasonable and works, if kid values her/his social life. Do not think and communicate such grounding as punishment, but just as natural consequence.

If Holly is as smart as it seems she is, she’s probably bored to death in school. Stick with it, kid. In high school you’ll have a better shot at selecting your own courses.

I’ve seen this in my family and my husband’s family. Some very bright people have attention-deficit disorder, autism-spectrum issues, or something similarly disabling. Sometimes they pull out of it, sometimes not. Some sponge off spouses, parents, or friends. Sad.

The only thing I regret is not being able to keep going to get my degree in History…hopefully will be able to take it up in on-line courses

“Great, make life harder for the schools.Shame on you. Also, what kind of dumb state makes schools responsible for something that has NOTHING to do with them?”

You don’t want a SAFE Learning Environment for kids…??

That was the law here in Michigan for a great many years and basically it worked quite well. And considering the way so many school systems are trying to interfere with activities of students long after school in out for the day and the students internet activities it should be brought back into being or the schools should just butt out and stick to teaching their required subjects. The schools can’t have it both ways. Not responsible for actions of students and yet control what they do or say 24/7.
