    Sorry to step on the cute joke, but the Franklin stove was basically a metal box with baffles inserted in a fireplace. In H.W. Brands’ excellent biography of Franklin “The First American”, the invention is consistently called the Franklin fireplace, the term “Franklin stove” occurring only once, in a quotation from a Boston newspaper which suggested that name to honor the inventor. But it is easy to understand how F&E could be confused since there is much misinformation about it on the Web.
