Not only is it a pothole, but the road on the right side has sunk a good six feet (for artistic purposes). We won’t even discuss the sheer cliff on the far side!

New England will always have potholes. The severe weather in the winter, along with snow-removal equipment and massive amounts of salt will make the roads heave with regularity. And the summers are too short to fix them all.

In Europe, the roads are smooth as glass, because the contractors are paid based on that. In the US, contractors are paid to get it done on time, and nothing more.

But, when all is said and done, potholes are obviously Obama’s fault.

It varies Adrian. Here in Arizona the city with the worst roads is almost certainly Tucson, the “Berkeley” of Arizona. It is run, and has been for decades now, by Progressive Democrats.Their most recent infrastructure project was to spend almost all their transportation budget on a trolley system from the University of Arizona to downtown. Nobody uses it.But, the streets all over town are decaying into potholed and cracking ruin because they have no money left to repave them. You have to remember that most, the vast majority, of the road network in the US is maintained by state, county, and local governments. Quality of these streets can vary wildly. It is my observation that as you go Left the streets crumble into ruin..

We’ve failed to maintain infrastructure, that costs tax dollars folk who only complain about potholes don’t want to pay, but the government did, and has continued, to build us the most efficient highways system in the world. Some design issues, like roundabouts, actually work better like in N.Z. where they drive “the wrong way”, and well, we could do better on road base construction, but, we still have good roads, and they cost money to build and maintain.

BTW: if you want your drive to cost the equivalent of $28-$50 for gas, go for private toll roads, worst idea ever, and the right wingers want ’em…
