The workers saw what happened to jobs in Detroit despite supposed “Union Protection”.Those workers make a very good living compared to other factory workers and are rightfully thankful.

Who says it’s over? After all, the Civil War’s still going on.

George Orwell was not prescient only with “1984”. He nailed it with “Animal Farm” as well.

Or maybe we should go with Sly Stone: “There is a black one who doesn’t like the white one for being such a rich one who will not help the poor one”

    Or maybe Steppenwolf"s “Monster”.

We can’t say we haven’t been shown mankind’s foolishness.

    Everything changes, but nothing changes.

Ah, yes, I was once a union steward. We could NOT make any salary demands because of our employer. We DID make several cases for sexual harassment, both females AND males! We also filed suit against random drug testing of all employees, and won our case before SCOTUS, defining that probable cause was necessary in “non-sensitive” positions. “Sensitive positions” were such as law enforcement, pilots, where public safety could readily be impacted by a first offense. Yes, even we considered it harmful if a pilot was flying a tad higher than the airplane.

We also were required to, and did, represent folks not in the union, but in the working unit. This “open shop” contract worked well for folks, and indeed, people who were represented by the union, yes, did join after they were represented fairly. Also, union dues have never been as high as the objectors (RWNJs) constantly proclaim.

BTW, I was also raised in an adamantly ANTI-union household, and it was as a thinking adult that I saw that while some unions, like corporations, can be corrupt, and have bad management, hmmm Larry Craig comes to mind on a more humorous example of government, the majority are viable caring folks. And yes, just as in government, corporate worlds, or everyday life, we do run across simple idiots who don’t know what they’re doing, or talking about. It’s like blogs.

I don’t. And the AMA is not nearly as perverse as the Bar Association. The law is for everyone, not friggin useless lawyers. You should be free to have anyone you want represent you in court not a union admitted liar…err… lawyer. The AMA has far less influence and cannot force a doctor to join. The Bar exists in all 50 states and every lawyer has to be a paying member to work. What could be more oppressive than a union that excludes most of the population from something that effects them?As a secondary to that the Trial Liars… err… Lawyers… I keep confusing those two… Association is the most virulent of the bunch. They give lawyers a bad name and lawyers already have a bad name.

I agree with you on the AMA as well as the Bar. That the AMA does limit slots for doctors (dentists are even more restricted) is bad for the nation as it limits the supply of doctors and medical professionals driving up costs..I say a pox on all their houses..Oh, it’s “Pro Per” when you represent yourself. My point was that you can’t have anyone but a licensed lawyer represent you otherwise and I think that is wrong. You should be able to get anyone you want to do it however bad or good they might be.
