Since before 1900, nations in which the USA and corporations based in the USA made investments nationalized the businesses and structures belonging to those businesses. I believe it was 1905 when the US marines went into Nicaragua to clean out the gold reserves in order to force them to pay what was owed to the USA after Nicaragua nationalized the debt they owed us. Oil companies, chemical companies, mining interests and more have been absorbed by foreign gov’ts when they decided it was in their best interests to do so.MONEY IS A CONCEPT, you cannot eat money. You cannot drink it. It’s sole purpose is to exchange services and compensate people for services rendered. Currency trading is equivalent to people deciding which marbles have more value than others. The USA has needs. Its debt is not an issue. If we can provide the food, water, and energy our people need, we quite frankly do not need the rest of the world to do anything but quit polluting our air and water… something many nations wish of us as well.If we ever get a Congress able to do work together, our nation’s debt will vanish quickly. A fully employed populace making enough money to not only have discretionary income but to pay taxes worth collecting will bring back the surpluses lost after Clinton left office. Repairing our infrastructure and putting in safeguards to reduce the financial consequences of flooding, droughts, fires, and chemical spills such as those in W. Va., N.C., the Gulf of Mexico, and other places will lower insurance costs and prevent the gov’t from spending billions a year; money that not being spent, will contribute to the surplus and the ability of the gov’t to reduce taxes for everyone. When our children have to ‘pay the bills’ accrued by every generation since 1776, all they have to really do is make sure that OUR house is in order. If it is, then they can do to the rest of the world what the world has done to us and Nationalize the Debt. The real threat to our children is if we fail to protect our ability to grow enough food, keep our water clean, and our energy grid secure. Money is not an issue. And here’s the proof. The power is out due to solar flares/weather events/terrorist activity and won’t be back on for six to sixteen weeks at the earliest for at least half of the country. Do you want money, or MREs(Meals Ready to Eat)? Do you want gold, or fresh water? Do you want stocks, or heat/AC? Do you want stuff, or neighbors who don’t want to kill you to take what you have?Respectfully,C.

“No credit card or student loan debt, 4 vehicles paid cash for, house almost paid for, good job, emergency fund fully funded. Living within my means. Everyone should do this and the country would be booming.”You are definitely not a “job creator” or Entrepreneur. Ever had the thrill of owning or operating a business? I have four vehicles I paid cash for, 2 homes paid in full, Own a business and manage another, and small credit card dept for supplies and inventory. I also have some employees with disabilities that have had difficulty procuring a job as no one wants to deal with their problem, )live in a very red state(,You are fortunate, I know many people still trying to recover from the stock market and housing bust. Many good choices people have made in the past turn to cr@p due to other peoples choices(greed) and natural problems (not all are disasters)But why continue, you do not care.

How many times did Lisa draw a cartoon criticizing raising the debt limit when Bush was president?-Oh, I forgot: It’s Okay When a Republican Does It.

Having passed a budget, it would have been incredibly stupid for the GOP to have blocked the ability to fund that budget. If the GOP actually cared about debt, increased revenues would be on the table as a bargaining chip, and the debt problem would be solved.
